Mylene Toyoken, and Dr. Rowena Varela (Program Leader) visited the University of Southern Mindanao last May 13 & 14, 2014. STP4RMM joins the DOST’s annual National Science and Technology Week (NSTW)

Encapsulating the program goal of STP4RMM in making mining in Mindanao socially-acceptable, economically viable, environment-friendly and ecologically sound anchored on sound decision support system, the research team exhibited an interactive computer-generated map that highlights the mineral deposits and mining areas in Mindanao. Alongside this, science-based information on biodiversity, profile of small-scale gold mining and contamination pathway, rehabilitation of mined-out areas and value-adding technologies for nickel and gold were showcased.
